In it's hay day the hotel hosted many travellers, including (allegedly) Royal visitors. Once, even a farmers thirsty horse called Boertjie visited the hotel's bar, but that's a tale for another day. The hotel was bought by the ACVV (Afrikaanse Christelike Vrouevereniging), and with the help of the local community converted to a retirement home. On 1 September 1990, Huis Driefontein officially opened its doors with eight residents. Since Richmond is such a favourite stopover town for tourists, we wanted to merge the functionality of a retirement home with the glorious hay day of the hotel's past.
